Renowned Casting Director and Producer Heidi Levitt To Be Honored at MNFF7
The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival welcomes renowned and award-winning casting director and film producer Heidi Levitt to its 7th Annual Festival and will honor Ms. Levitt with an award for Sustained Excellence and Imagination in Casting. A graduate of Barnard College and the AFI Producers Program, Heidi Levitt has cast such successful films as JFK, Nixon, Natural Born Killers, Nurse Betty, The Rock, Joy Luck Club, Benny & Joon and The Artist, the superb five time Oscar winner including Best Picture.
Alternating deftly between standard studio and indie fare, Heidi Levitt has repeatedly worked with acclaimed directors Oliver Stone, Wayne Wang, Wim Wenders and Neil LaBute. In 1997, on the eve of Hong Kong’s unification with China, she collaborated with Wayne Wang on the marvelous Chinese Box, starring Jeremy Irons and Gong Li, a film that captured that moment in history, which she co-produced and cast. As an Honoree Tribute to Ms. Levitt, MNFF will screen Mr. Wang’s Director’s Cut of Chinese Box on Friday, August 27 at 715p at Robison Hall in the Mahaney Arts Center at Middlebury College. Following the screening, Ms. Levitt will engage with MNFF Artistic Director in an on-stage event sure to be memorable.
In addition, Heidi Levitt will also appear the following morning, Saturday, August 28, at MNFF’s popular “Coffee with. . .” session at 830a at the Middlebury Inn’s lovely courtyard patio. Be sure to catch her with Jay Craven for an informal and lively chat as she shares stories from her impressive career. The Inn will offer coffee/tea and baked goods to start your day.
Award Winning Actor and Director Karen Allen To Be Honored at MNFF7
The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival is delighted to welcome the versatile and talented actor and director Karen Allen to its 7th Annual Festival and will honor Ms. Allen with an award for Sustained Excellence in Acting. Ms. Allen will join us at MNFF on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 for the screening of two of her very popular films and extended on-stage conversations. First inspired to become an actor in 1972, she performed in numerous productions with the Washington Theatre Laboratory in Washington, DC. After moving to New York, Ms. Allen forged a highly productive and decorated career as a theater director, actor and teacher. Crossing over effortlessly to film, Karen Allen’s numerous credits include Animal House, The Wanderers, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Starman and The Glass Managerie. She starred in the indie feature A Year By The Sea which screened at MNFF in 2016. In 2019, Ms. Allen starred in Tom Quinn’s Colewell, which screened as part of MNFF6: ONLINE. She also wrote and directed A Tree, A Rock, A Cloud, based on a Carson McCullers short story, in 2016. As a heartfelt tribute to our Honoree, MNFF will screen Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark to commemorate the film’s 40th Anniversary, on Saturday, August 28 at 715p at Town Hall Theater. And on Sunday, August 29 at 4p, also at Town Hall Theater, MNFF will show the sci-fi adventure, romance classic Starman. Following both films, Ms. Allen will take the stage for a stimulating conversation with MNFF Artistic Director Jay Craven. Karen Allen will also attend the Closing Night Awards Ceremony to claim her immensely well deserved VTeddy!
MNFF7 Announces Its COVID-19 Protocols: Attendees Must Be Vaccinated
The MNFF7 team is putting together an expansive and entertaining “comeback” Festival on the ground and in person this coming August 25-29. We want everyone to have an enjoyable time when they are visiting Middlebury, a beautiful community. But, in consideration of fluctuating conditions and in deference to our host venues, MNFF7 will require that our attendees be fully vaccinated, and that includes our amazing visiting filmmakers and special guests. And in alignment with what’s happening on Broadway and other notable film festivals, we will ask that our attendees show proof of their vaccination when they enter an indoor screening venue. Festival Pass, Day Pass and Opening Night ticket holders can show their vaccination cards when picking up their passes/tickets at Town Hall Theater. Individual advance ticket buyers will need to bring proof of vaccination to enter the film screening they have purchased. And if you’d like to wear a mask while inside a screening venue, please go right ahead. We regret any inconvenience to people who will not be able to join us. We hope to see you next year. Thank you all for understanding as we navigate these challenging times.
